1880 - built Syzransky (Alexander) railway bridge over the Volga River, which connected the central regions of Russia and the Volga, Urals and Siberia.
In the second half of the nineteenth century in Russia began the rapid construction of railroads. Government decides to lay a railroad to the Volga region - most important of wheat region of the country. In October 1874 put into operation Morshano - Syzranskaya railway. October 12 the first train arrived at its destination - the station laborers. In January 1877 put into operation Orenburg railway, which passes through the city of Samara. Start it takes on the station laborers. At the same time built railway section Syzran - laborers. Opening Orenburg railroad was the greatest event in the history of Russia, as a convenient way for the transport of Russian goods to Asian markets, as well as for the export of raw materials from Asia.
1837 - opened Russia's first public railway Petersburg - Tsarskoe Selo.
In August 1834 at the invitation of the mining department arrived in St. Petersburg famous Austrian engineer and professor at the Vienna University of Technology Franz von Gerstner. During the four months he has traveled many cities from Moscow to the Urals and on his return to St. Petersburg to the Emperor Nicholas I gave the detailed note in which he outlined his views on the construction of railways. It noted that "... there is no country in the world, where the railroads would be more beneficial and even necessary, than in Russia, because they can reduce long distance by increasing the speed of movement." First, to dispel doubts about the possibility to operate railways in winter conditions, it was proposed to build a small line.

Global economic trends dictate the direction for the development of global transport structures. Active efforts of JSC "RZD", attached to the development of the Asia-Pacific region, aimed at enhancing the economic participation of transport structures of Russia in the global flow of goods.
Railway Records.
It not surprising that railway transport is widely mentioned in the Guinness Book of World Records. If all world railway main lines can cover the equator for 27 times, why not mention records on the railroad itself.

On May 20, 2009 the management of Russian Railways OJSC endorsed a project of The Second Cargo Company. Transfer of the major part of the car fleet will take place before January 2010, when start-up of the new operator is planned.
